Bringing food for Dragon Skin can be a bit intimidating if you haven’t done it before, but it’s easier than it sounds! If you need help contact us.
You will need to bring Friday’s lunch to Mondays Lunch, so three dinners, four lunches and three breakfasts, as well as some lollies or snacks for in between.
The food you bring needs to lightweight, be OK without refrigeration, be easy to prepare and cook and be something you will like to eat!
Breakfast
- Cereal, whatever you like mix a few types together!, place in a snap lock bag. You can either have long life milk or powdered; you can use the bag as a bowl. Put powdered milk in a separate bag and work out before you go how much water you will need to add (using you own cup).
- OR some instant porridge, you can get it in sachets (use 2) and add some brown sugar
- Include a fruit and nut bar or a small apple or mandarin
Lunch
- Vita wheat biscuits, take some vegemite and cheese to put on them. Try twiggy sticks, have a fruit and nut bar as well and some celery or carrot sticks. OR try making sandwiches using English muffins, they will last a while.
- There are heaps pre-packaged shelf stable tuna or other type lunch meals
Dinner
- You need to think light, you could buy pre-prepared meals from a hiking store, these can be expensive, but preparing your own is easy.
- Dinners for hiking (Dinners)
- Friday bring your favourite casserole or stew, freeze it at home and reheat at skin; easy and quick stir in a pack of microwave rice or some pasta or deb to bulk it up.
- For Saturday and Sunday nights you will need to consider De-Hydrated foods, there are heaps of rice and pasta “side” dishes, that can be great if you bulk them up with some salami canned chicken or tuna or dried vegies.Cooking your own meal is easy to try these recipes below, practice them before skin so you know what to do and know you will like them.DS Recipe - Pasta BologneseTry Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) it is a mince meat substitute, it is very light, cheap and dry, when rehydrated looks and feels just like mince meat, add a flavour with a recipe base like Bolognaise of Curry mince and some dried veg for an easy, filling lightweight meal.
